The mission of Action Against Hunger is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations of conflict, war and natural disaster. From crisis to sustainability, we tackle the underlying causes of malnutrition and its effects by using our expertise in nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. By integrating our programs with local and national systems we further ensure that short-term interventions become long-term solutions. Action Against Hunger was founded in France as Action Internationale Contre la Faim (AICF, nowadays known as ACF) by a group of French intellectuals, scientist, journalists, writers and doctors in 1979. While hunger had been adressed in general campaigns against poverty and poor public health, ACF was established specifically to combat hunger worldwide. Action Against Hunger-USA began in 1985, becoming autonomous in 1992. Today there are five organizations that make up the ACF International Network (ACF-IN), which headquarters in France, Spain, United Kingdom, the USA and Canada.
