The Tongass Conservation Society (TCS) is a dynamic, diverse group of citizens based in Ketchikan, Alaska, and with membership all over the United States (and more and more, the Planet). Our common bond is a love and appreciation for the healthy ecosystems of Southeast Alaska. We strive to nourish an attitude of responsible stewardship and to enable the global community at large to become more active and informed. TCS began in the 1960's as a mountaineering club whose members sought to protect the clean waters and varied environment around Ketchikan. One of TCS's earliest accomplishments was participating in the formation of the Misty Fjords National Monument (thanks, Jimmy Carter). Currently, TCS is active in addressing potentially detrimental timber sales, revamping a forest plan so it makes sense for all users of the forest, shaping regional economics, and other projects that appeal to the organizational mission. TCS has established substantial credibility throughout the Tongass through conservation advocacy and education. By being here, we are taking our work, and this national treasure, into the primetime. We need your help to protext this vast and lush temperate rainforest known as the Tongass.
