Description:
The USO (United Service Organizations) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress - and enduring style of USO delivery - is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates more than 130 centers worldwide, including ten mobile canteens located in the continental United States and overseas. Overseas centers are located in Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Korea, Afghanistan, Guam, and Kuwait. Service members and their families visit USO centers more than 5.3 million times each year. The USO is the way the American public supports the troops.

I have no idea. I've been voting on DDB for a long time by myself. Seems like it's been taken over, sorry USO is a very good cause.

Knew you guys would appreciate this... it was made by a 15 year old girl who has more eloquence than I ever will. It just shows why causes like the USO are so important!

Sidra it's not late at all. I announced it for a week, but if more money floats in later, hey COOL! The more the merrier:)

Sue, we made a decision to keep it right here in this area and not to promote it elsewhere. I didn't want to aggravate the people who worked so hard to put the Gorilla Charity into the #1 spot. I respect what they did and their charity is worthy. I vote daily on Care 2 Connect for the Gorilla charity there, so I didn't feel inclined to donate this round to them, I'm already donating to a similar cause. Plus, they were SO ugly to us for weeks, and if that's the kind of people who support that kind of charity, then perhaps that says something about the charity. If they want their charities to receive donations, they should think about how they are representing them next time. Something for them to think about, at least.

The USO voters took the high road the last 3 weeks, and I don't think any of us are inclined to change. We have withstood a whole ton of abuse for the sake of a cause we believe in, as unpopular as it is in some quarters.

We knew we would never win with the lies and misinformation being spread about the charity, so we thought we should have our unofficial drive in honor of all of the fine people who spent so much time here trying to get it to win. Plus, politics aside, we should respect and honor those people in uniform who sacrifice a lot trying to serve our country.

I don't know that Marc will ever tell anyone about it, but he was certainly kind enough to understand why we were doing it. Like I said to him, the purpose of this site is to donate money for worthy charities, and if we want to hold our unofficial pledge drive, there is nothing stopping us. Marc agreed, but I wanted to tell him in case someone decided to take exception to it and start writing more whiny nastygrams. Poor Marc, the minute we start winning against some charity, these people start firing of all sorts of nasty accusing emails...like no one can win fair and square. Which makes me wonder what THEY are up to, because people tend to judge others by their own moral compass.

Anyone who floats in here to see what us "war criminals" are up to, will find this pledge drive. That's not a bad thing. And this holds true for everyone. Say you don't win! Do your own pledge drive! It generates more money for various charities, and everyone wins.
